A comprehensive guide to the the best wedding venues South West England. This resource is based on my own experiences as a Cotswolds wedding photographer. Basically a resource of some of my favourite places to get married. All of these included, I have had the pleasure of working at numerous times. I am certainly very lucky living locally in this glorious part of the South West of England; Steeped in rich history covering Gloucestershire, Worcestershire, Somerset, Oxfordshire, Wiltshire, Warwickshire, Devon, Exeter and Cornwall. With the M4 and M5 motorways linking all of these counties together. This guide will show actual photographs taken at these south west of England wedding venues.

I have been lucky enough to call the south west of England my home for the past 10 years; it really is a beautiful place to live and get married. Couples are absolutely spoilt for choice when choosing this part of the UK as your wedding location. It runs through nine counties and there is an abundance of historic, quaint villages, castles, famous English houses and rolling green hills as far as the eye can see. Then obviously the amazing wedding venues the South West of England has to offer.

What is the best South West wedding venue?

I often get asked questions like, "what is my favourite wedding venue in the South West of England? " and "where would I choose to get married?" With there being so many south west wedding venues to choose from, questions such as these are difficult to answer. So I decided to create this guide, based on my time spent as a wedding photographer, helping you choose your future wedding venue. Here are some of my favourites for you to browse and enjoy.

Euridge Manor

Euridge Manor

Euridge Manor is a stunning wedding venue located in Wiltshire, England. Set in the heart of an idyllic countryside estate, the manor boasts a charming and romantic atmosphere that is perfect for weddings.

Couples can exchange vows in the venue's picturesque gardens, which feature gorgeous floral displays and tranquil water features that add to the ambiance. Indoor wedding ceremonies can also be held in the majestic Great Hall, which is adorned with elegant chandeliers, high ceilings and intricate woodwork, or the magnificent boathouse lake.

The venue can accommodate up to 200 guests and has various reception spaces, including the rustic Cowshed, which is perfect for a cozy and relaxed reception or the elegant Ballroom that exudes grandeur and sophistication.

Euridge Manor also has luxurious accommodation options for the couple and their guests, including six gorgeous en-suite bedrooms that are beautifully designed and furnished to make guests feel right at home.

Manor By The Lake

Manor By The Lake is positioned on the outskirts of Cheltenham town, conveniently located close to the M5 motorway. This was one of the first venues that I was lucky enough to photograph at in the South West of England. It is a versatile venue with options for an indoor or an outdoor wedding ceremony. As you can see, the grounds are very picturesque and home to a beautiful lake which provides a stunning backdrop for wedding photographs. The interior certainly doesn't disappoint either, with its very own Rock Bar adding a touch of style and fun to the celebrations. Finally, what sets this venue apart is the people who work there; professional, friendly and hardworking they simply cannot do enough for couples on their wedding day.

Cripps Barn

Cripps Barn is the first of the barn wedding venues included in this guide. Situated close to the town of Cirencester and the charming Cotswold village of Bibury, there are ample places nearby for wedding accommodation. You can get married in the barn itself or outdoors, nestled in a glade amongst the trees. During the colder months couples and guests alike can cosy up next to the traditional open fireplace. Outside there is a large, sunny south facing terrace with firepits and gardens for guests to explore. If it's a feast you're after then Cripps Barn will not disappoint; the food here is truly delicious with the venue being renowned for its barbecues and rotisseries. After the food has settled and the drink is flowing, guests can party the night away until 1am on the dance floor. Cripps Barn is owned and run by Cripps and Co who have 8 venues scattered around the UK; another being Stone Barn which I have also included in this list below.

Cornwell Manor

What is the best south west wedding venue

Cornwell Manor is an exclusive English country manor house, located on the Oxfordshire-Gloucestershire borders and near to the market town of Chipping Norton. Never open to the public it is available for private hire and weddings only, offering couples the opportunity to rent the house for a long weekend. It is positioned on a vast 2000-acre estate with beautiful landscaped gardens, a swimming pool and its very own church! There are a number of ways to get married at Cornwell Manor that will likely suit all tastes. Couples can opt for an intimate indoor ceremony in the Ballroom followed by a lavish dinner or a traditional church ceremony with a marquee positioned on the croquet lawn for the wedding breakfast; the house and grounds offering a jawbreakingly beautiful backdrop. Couples can also have a blessing conducted anywhere on the estate which offers the opportunity to create a day which is completely unique. Arguably Cornwell Manor is one of the prettiest houses in the UK and the most romantic place to get married; so much so it was even featured in the heart warming, feel-good film "The Holiday" in 2006.

Soho Farmhouse

Soho Farmhouse is the arguably the greatest creation of the Soho House group which has exclusive venues across the globe. This members' club-style venue is situated near to Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire and combines a rustic Canadian wilderness cabin vibe with the comforts of 'boutique' London. Set across 100 acres of farmland it is home to 40 reclaimed timber cabins, an 18th century farmhouse and four man-made lakes. This venue feels very much like a "resort" with several restaurants and facilities galore. For the more active types there is an indoor and outdoor swimming pool, a boating lake, gym, tennis courts, a football pitch and opportunities for horse riding. For those of you who crave some TLC after the wedding day exhilaration, then fear not as Soho Farmhouse is also the perfect place to relax and unwind with a spa which offers a broad range of treatments, hot tubs and even a luxurious cinema! Soho Farmhouse is by far one of the coolest venues in the South West which offers indulgent comforts mixed with a chilled and relaxed atmosphere.

Norton Hall

Norton Hall is a private Georgian Manor house which is located near to the famous market town of Chipping Campden. The house is quintessentially English, situated in 500 acres of picturesque parkland with stunning interiors and cosy rooms. The venue is available for exclusive use for up to 3 nights which makes Nortan Hall a great option for a long weekend of wedding celebrations! The vast grounds offer an abundance of choice for a blessing and marquee wedding reception for up to 180 guests. The house itself can also be used for more intimate weddings of up to 24 guests. The key selling point of Nortan Hall is by far its flexibility; with an event manager included in the venue hire, staff are committed to ensuring that couples can make their wedding day truly unique and special to them.

Matara Centre

Elmore Court

Elmore Court near Gloucester. The house and gorgeous gardens welcome you as soon as you reach the front gates. Its history draws you in immediately chance to capture those special moments in a truly wonderful backdrop, with perfect light and decor for tour wedding photographs.

Afterwards guests head across to The Gillyflower for dinner and dancing, which has been built from earth and timber from the estate… It really is fantastic for your evening wedding breakfast and party. Once the party is all done you haven't far to go to bed. There is onsite accommodation, with all the rooms designed differently.

Sudeley Castle

One of the few south west of England castle wedding venues is the wonderful Sudeley Castle. If you're looking for that fairytale wedding venue then look no further. If it's history that you want, then it's here in abundance. Building began here in 1443, which is worth the visit alone. King Henry VIII even visited the castle and his sixth wife Katherine Parr is even buried in the castles church. So if you fancy getting married in the company of royalty, look no further.

Stone Barn

Stone Barn is a very cool and rustic wedding venue. A restored farm barn, with wood-beamed stone adjoined buildings to hire privately for weddings, which includes on-site camping, if required. It really is such a cool and laid back wedding venue. Part of the Cripps and Co group, so you're certainly in very capable hands throughout your wedding journey. Very much an all year round wedding venue. Stunning gardens and fields in the summer, plus a snug fireplace keeping you warm in the winter.

Hilles House

Hilles House is is tucked away in the Gloucestershire hills. This venue comes with so manny stories already attached due to it's rich history. Hilles House has some of the best views of any South West of England wedding venues. On a clear day you can see across 5 counties. It was built around 1914 – 1916 by architect Detmar Jellings Blow, Hilles House is now home to his grandson, Detmar Blow and his family.

Birtsmorton Court

Located near the wonderful Malvern Hills, Birtsmorton Court is a Grade I listed fortified medieval moated manor house in Worcestershire, surrounded by the woodlands of Malvern Chase. It is located in Birtsmorton, a small agricultural parish 7 miles south-east of Malvern Wells. A family run venue, the Dawes family who are so warm and welcoming. Having your wedding surrounded by a moat is always cool right?

The Kings Head Hotel

I had to include a pub wedding venue. The Kings Hotel in Cirencester caters for all of your wedding needs and has lovely accommodation on site. Once owned by an Elizabethan bailiff. recently refurbished keeping much of the contemporary country coolness to its old stone walls, wooden beams and original Roman mosaic. One added bonus is its also a stones throw from the famous St. John Baptist church.

Owlpen Manor

Owlpen Manor is a Tudor Grade I listed manor house of the Mander family, situated near the village of Owlpen in the Stroud district in Gloucestershire, England. There is an associated estate set in a valley within the Cotswold area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The Manor does feel like it's own little village has it has its own church. The scenery is again breathtaking and there's so much to explore on your wedding day.

Cowley Manor

Barnsley House

Barnsley House has amazing landscaped gardens welcoming you and could there be a more romantic setting for your Cotswolds wedding? The venue can host up to 100 guests for the ceremony, up to 70 for the wedding breakfast in the restaurant, or up to 120 in a marquee in the grounds. The Village Pub across the road also has space and is equally worth sampling a local beer.

Ellenborough Park

Ellenborough Park is a high end wedding venue in Cheltenham. It is set at the bottom of Cleeve Hill and has spectacular views over Cheltenham Racecourse. It's a big peoples favourite during race week and another great South West wedding venue option. No stone is left unturned at Ellenborough and the friendly staff simply cannot do enough for you.

Grittleton House

Grittleton House used to be a school. My school looked nothing like this one. This reminds me more of Hogwarts from the Harry Potter films. If you're a fan then Grittleton is certainly worth a visit. They certainly don't build them like this anymore. Also very close to the historic city of Bath

Hamswell House

Best Wedding Venues South West England

Hamswell House is yet another historic south west of England wedding venue a Jacobean, Queen Anne and Georgian Manor House set in a terraced garden. The early Jacobean façade with its elaborate carved stone portico is a fine example of the English Renaissance. The garden façade is Queen Anne with a stone shell hood on brackets carved with acanthus leaves and beasts above the door. The wonderful orangery in the grounds is 18th-century built with high arched windows and a Cotswold stone roof. With glorious views over the countryside as your wedding day backdrop.

Clearwell Castle

One of the few castle wedding venues in the South West of England is the magnificent Clearwell Castle. As you enter the driveway you can soon see why this venue is so popular. They absolutely don't make them like this anymore. Hidden in the Forest of Dean in the tiny village of Clearwell, the venue is conveniently located only 45 minutes from Bristol, Cheltenham and Gloucester. The staff at the castle have been so good to me over the years, that generosity is quite easily visible to all the couples that i've witnessed get married here. The perfect place for your wedding banquet.

Blackwell Grange

Blackwell Grange in Shipton-on-stour is made up of numerous renovated farm barns. Finished to an excellent and elegant standard. The owners William and Didi live on the farm, the family has been there since 1944. The venue has a great blend of the old mixed with new. A very picturesque setting with gorgeous pockets of light scattered all over. Perfect for a wedding photographer. The Great Tythe Barn

The South West of England is simply spoilt for choice with barn wedding venues. One of the finest is this beauty near the famous market town of Tetbury. With accommodation on site and exclusive use, it really is the place for a relaxed wedding. This historic Tythe barn which dates back to the 16th century, retains many of its original features such as exposed Cotswolds stone walls and wooden oak beams whilst incorporating 21st Century creature comforts. I always receive a warm welcome here and i'm sure you would too.

Calcot Manor & Spa

A little history lesson for you. Calcot Manor is a historic building in Calcot, three and a half miles from Tetbury in Gloucestershire, South West England, The original building was established in approximately 1300 AD by Henry of Kingswood as a tithe barn annex of Kingswood Abbey. The venue is beautifully decorated throughout, with a lovely blend between the old and new. A great weekend retreat and a wonderful wedding venue. Another very photogenic Cotswolds venue.
