The Day Ed Sheeran Rocked up at a Wedding that I Photographed

Celebrity Ed Sheeran throwing confetti as a guest at a wedding

The day began like any other, I have seen my fair share of unscripted moments but nothing could prepare me for the day Ed Sheeran rocked up as a guest at a wedding I photographed. The first I heard of Ed Sheeran's arrival was when I was waiting for the bride to head down the stairs for the ceremony. Next thing I hear the videographer shouting my name. "Dan - You wouldn't guess who has just arrived as a guest" Quickly followed by "Ed Sheeran!" Surely not? It must be a perfect Ed Sheeran lookalike I presumed. Though Ed who married his own childhood sweetheart Cherry Seaborn Sheeran in 2019, definitely wasn't stealing all the limelight.

When Ed Sheeran Walked in

Obviously as a professional wedding photographer, my priority is always my couple that have put their trust in me to capture their day. During the ceremony my eyes started scanning as normal whilst working. The disbelief was contagious across the guests. I knew I had to capture this incredible moment, after all how often does one get to photograph a global superstar in such an intimate setting? You could see Ed Sheeran as a guest looking excited to see his friends tie the knot. There was even a pianist playing during the ceremony. So I'm sure the nerves were there, but she gave a performance of his classic song 'Shape of You', which I'm sure Ed was extremely impressed by.

Ed Sheeran Photograph

Uncannily, Photograph is a song by Ed Sheeran. Ed wrote the song along with Snow Patrol member Johnny McDaid. It was inspired by Sheeran's personal experiences of being in a long distance relationship with his girlfriend. The lyrics sing true with my feelings as a Cotswolds wedding photographer. "We keep this love in a photograph. We made our memories for ourselves" This resonates with the aim I have with my camera, capturing incredible memories for everyone to see.

Celebrity Ed Sheeran as a Guest At Your Wedding

As a photographer, my challenge was to capture candid moments without it effecting the couple's special day. It was a delicate balance but I was determined to document the joy of this unexpected celebrity presence. Photographing the famous Ed Sheeran was a great experience and he even said "hello" to me. I managed to snap a few shots that beautifully captured Ed's interactions with the guests, his happy smile, and the overall happiness of the day.

Having a celebrity at a wedding can certainly add to the excitement. I always strive to ensure that the true essence of the wedding shines through in my photos, not just make it all about Ed Sheeran. Reflecting on the day, I’m grateful to have been able to witness and capture such a unique and fun experience. If you’re looking for a wedding photographer who can capture the magic of your special day, feel free to reach out. Sadly I can’t guarantee celebrity Ed Sheeran as a wedding guest at your wedding. Enjoy the images of Ed below and see a wedding I shot at the Chapel Royal London.
